NEW YORK TIMES CELEBRATES DETROIT MUSIC

Detroit may be getting almost nothing but negative press on an international scale these days, due to the failing auto market. But as we've always known in this city, our other major export -- namely, the local music scene -- is still very much alive and definitely worth celebrating.

And the New York Times did exactly that yesterday in its "Travel" section in an article entitled "In Detroit Clubs, the Music Scene Keeps on Rockin'" (hard to believe the old gray lady would actually "lower" itself to use the word "rockin'" as opposed to the, um, more formal "rocking").

And, yes, the recent successful Blowout festival gets mentioned,.

According to writer Micheline Maynard: "Even though the city, and its auto industry, have been hit by hard times that threaten some venerable places, live music endures in the Motor City." Of course, we didn't need a newspaper scribe to tell us that...but it's still nice to see reported elsewhere.
