Mr. B: Getting ready to roll across the state

Pianist Mr. B, aka Mark Braun, and his band, the Joybox Express, are cycling and gigging from Holland to Detroit, July 2-15th — and they're sharing their adventures with MT blog readers.

We're amazed at the improvement our custom-made bass trailer will provide us as we roll down the roads starting tomorrow in Holland.

The "Mothership" will support three riders, is 16 feet long, and will weigh 1,100 pounds, including piano. With Carl's new custom trailer fabricated by Pat Harlow, Carl will haul his string bass, our drum kit, guitar amp, and more.

The newest member of the JBE is Lance"Legstrong" Wagner, he'll be playing fiddle and hauling a Burley trailer behind his bike with our food and water, and personal things.

We'll ride as much as 54 miles one day, and will ride altogether 300-plus miles across the state, from Holland to Detroit. Along the way we'll play a dozen concerts, conduct six group rides, and raise money for human services organizations that partner with us. We love to "ambush" folks with extemporaneous, unannounced performances for people we meet along our route — men at work, grandmas on porches, and kids at play; nobody is safe from the "JBE."

Here's an early shot over the bow of any Detroit area reader: Group Ride at 2:30 p.m. the 15th, starts and ends at the DIA. Come along, we'll cruise the city, ending up at the DIA for our Concert of Colors gig.It will be an easy, unforgettable ride!

You can raise money for any charity you want, just download our Group Rides Pledge Form from our Home Page at joyboxexpress.com. Have your pals support you in our ride by making pledges, all proceeds go straight to the group you choose!

We're lighting smiles for miles, wish us luck, and look for us on our route. All the info is on joyboxexpress.com under On the Road/Events.

Stay tuned, and see you soon.

Mr. B
