MITTENFEST IV SCHEDULED FOR NEW YEAR'S WEEKEND

Our expatriate Michigan friend Brandon Zwagerman, who makes his home in New York these days, is presenting his fourth annual Mittenfest at Ypsilanti's Elbow Room in late December. This year, it actually starts the afternoon of New Year's Eve -- and then runs through Monday, January 4th. That's 40 bands in four days, for those of you keeping count. As always, the event is a benefit for 826michigan (http://www.826michigan.org), which a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students, ages 6 to 18, with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Cool cause.

The Elbow Room is the same place as it's always been: 6 South Washington Street in Ypsi; 734-483-6374. Four-day discount wristbands are currently available for $25 each at Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair, 115 East Liberty Street, Ann Arbor. This year's lineup is again comprised of top-notch music from all over the state (as well as a few from outside the Mitten this year), including such local Detroit area faves as Silverghost, Friendly Foes, Electric Fire Babies, Matt Jones (we still love that guy's music), Lightning Love, Fred Thomas and many, many more.
