Hitting Detroit on the most recent mega-metal tour, Gigantour came to The Palace of Auburn Hills late last week on February 9th. Headlining was Megadeth, who fronted by Dave Mustaine closed out the evening with a roughly hour long set complete with a somewhat incoherent mini political rant from Mustaine. Megadeth played through a 14-song set, consisting mostly older tunes and was fairly well received in the 1/2 to 3/4 full Palace. That was until Mustaine decided to get quasi-political before the encore.
"Our country is being emasculated," Mustaine said as he motioned that the country was being castrated with finger scissors to his cock 'n balls "Our grandparents are being stripped of their pensions, and our army is getting smaller and smaller. I don't know about you, but I know who I'm voting for."
To which the crowd replied with a momentary pause of "the fuck did he just say" before a raucous amount of boos. This was probably left for the end as the show itself was pretty well executed, solos from Mustaine and fellow guitarist Chris Broderick flew off the fretboard right and left as the rhythm section bashed behind them.
A personal highlight, and a main reason I attended the show, was to again see metal monolith Motörhead(I was tardy to the party and missed Lacuna Coil and Volbeat) who despite playing the same basic set as a year previous (and probably most years) fucking wailed and were loud as shit per the usual. Bass player and lead singer Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister's signature bass thumped off the concrete floor of the Palace and filled the cavernous venue with a thud over the screams of metal fans as the trio churned through their set. They've been doing it for years and aren't showing any signs of slowing down. Check out our past interview with Lemmy here.
