Are you ovulating? Are you considering proposing to your significant other? Need an excuse to make love? If you’re not hip to the smooth stylings of R&B singer-songwriter PJ Morton, you might want to light a candle and a run a bath because it’s going down. Morton, a New Orleans native, has been a member of Maroon 5 (keyboards and backing vocals) since 2012 but has been hustling his brand of sweet, sultry R&B coolness long before Adam Levine came knocking. His breakthrough record Gumbo dropped in 2017 on his record label Morton Records, which he envisioned as “New Orleans Motown.” The album earned Morton two Grammy nominations.

PJ Morton will perform at El Club on Monday, May 7; Doors open at 8 p.m.; 4114 W. Vernor Hwy., Detroit; 313-279-7382; elclubdetroit.com; Tickets are $20-$25.
