Oslo, Detroit’s most important venue for the international electronic music scene of the last two years, may have had its last dance. Or has it? Owners of the club, which was padlocked and dark all weekend, have been unreachable. A phone message recorded several weeks ago, when food service was suspended at the upstairs sushi bar, continues to say that music will go on as planned downstairs. But two scheduled parties were canceled last weekend and Ghostly International’s Saturday holiday formal was moved last minute to the Works. This Friday, Houseshoes and DJ Dez (Slum Village) were scheduled to play at Oslo, with the Sass holiday party slotted for Saturday. On Dec. 29, Dethlab was planning another in its Sex & Sedition series at the downtown club, which has hosted global techno stars like Superpitcher, Michael Mayer, DJ Hell, Ellen Allien and dozens of others since spring of 2004.
