Just Another Friday (Turn It Up To 11!)

In the whirl of five hours or so, this Friday, you could see (/hear) live performances from seven local bands (and two DJs, I'd add) -between the Yelp party at the Fillmore in the earlier part of the evening (7pm-10pm-ish) and then transitioning a few blocks north to the Magic Stick for a HandGrenades-curated concert (on around 10 pm-ish).

Yelp, the social-networking, user-review-cataloging, local-businesses bolstering web site is "Turning It Up To 11" on Friday night, splaying out a splendid bazaar-esque showcasing of local distillers, restaurants, and various other engaging entities from skin-care to event planning to roller derby! Oh, and performances from the white hot (as of late) Sights, Arbor-Ypsi eerie-folk-/acoustic-auteur Matt Jones & the Reconstruction and the ebullient/enlivening post-funk/NewWeird/fun-flared rap antics of Passalacqua.

Here's a video of Matt Jones...rockin the local:

More info for those of you who use this Yelp thing can be found if you browse around the Yelp Community site.

When that winds down... fling yourself up to the Magic Stick for the HandGrenades - young-turks of indie-rock-riffed Brit-pop-re-revivalism.

They're joined by the indomitable High Strung, a Chicago band coming into town for the night called The Future Laureates, and a solo set by multi-project-prodding/ceaseless-songwriting-singer Jesse Shepherd-Bates.

Here's the HG's...

That's a busy night...

And then DALLY IN THE ALLEY kicks off the next day (9/8).

Sheesh. ...Stay hydrated. Sleep...(...at some point).

Plan your people-watching saunter through the alleyways - scope the Dally Line-Up HERE.

Both the Dally and the Yelp party are put on to support great causes, (the North Cass Community Union and Real Life. My Music, respectively)...so be generous, all.
