Jake Shears cut his teeth as the male lead in the glam rock outfit Scissor Sisters from 2001-2012. But now, Shears is riding the wave of his entrancing memoir Boys Keep Swinging, as well as his New Orleans-inspired self-titled solo debut record that toggles between the disco sounds of the Bee Gees, Roxy Music, and an X-rated cabaret. Two years in the making, Shears enlisted help from members of My Morning Jacket while Shears cuts his solo teeth by seamlessly dressing his anxiety in shades of seduction — see “Big Bushy Mustache” for a taste of what he’s been up to. Ssion and Sammy Jo round out the bill.

Jake Shears will perform on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. at El Club; 4114 W. Vernor Hwy., Detroit; 313-279-7382; elclubdetroit.com; Tickets are $20.
