Is this the best album cover art of the year? 'Colonial Donuts' by Bill Orcutt and Jacob Felix Heule

The press release informs that guitarist Bill Orcutt and drummer Jacob Felix Heule have been performing regularly around the San Francisco area since 2012, but this is their first release together. The album was recorded in Orcutt's living room in the early months of 2015 and named after a chain of Oakland coffee shops. Orcutt himself designed the cover, which is amazing. Just look at those rad Che Guevara tattoos! Excuse me, Hendrix.

It's a single LP in a fancy gatefold cover, in an edition of 750, which means it will take a few months at least before it starts to attain "collectible" prices. So if you want one, ask a friendly local record retailer to please order it for you. It's released on October 16, on the Palilalia label (distributed by Forced Exposure).

"Colonial Donuts collects 13 compact, stylistically diverse duets for electric guitar and drums, ranging from hushed, socially anxious folk to sprung electric blues to dense, pummeling free improvisation." Sounds great to us, and here's hoping that Orcutt returns to Detroit sometime soon; that bro is one of the best guitarists alive today. (He did play Oberlin in April, and why didn't we all drive there for it?)
