Hues of booze

The Blue Martini is the newest place to be in downtown Birmingham, and its style and ambiance matches Birmingham's general high-class character beautifully. Opening their chic doors only five weeks ago, this already-popular martini bar has live music Wednesday-Sunday night and touts a dance floor accented with blue lights and the come-hither pulsation of a disco ball. Waitresses cruise the bar, clad in tight black pants and tank tops, serving drinks; shaker-sized martinis run about $12, while other drinks average $7 to $15. Gourmet appetizers ($6-$12) are available to those seated at candlelit cocktail tables. Located just downstairs from the new City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill and next to the Palladium 12 movie theater, the Blue Martini welcomes a mixed crowd, ranging from twentysomethings looking for a night on the town, to businessmen sipping late-night martinis.
