Detroit's Hotwalls aren't interested in broken noses or power chords. Like a crop of notable local groups (the Silent Years and Prime Ministers included), the quartet makes straightforward pop that acknowledges contemporary indie rock but thinks music should mostly be about, you know, having a good time. Appropriately, their new album is full of jangling guitar chords and rich harmonies, but they can also tear it up when they want to. Vocalist Ryan Milligan plays the name game in anticipation of the Hotwalls' CD release show.
5. Namesake: As a result of poor grounding, the walls of our former practice space emit a shock. And that makes Hotwalls a conduit, transmitting energy and an audible buzz to the you, the fans. You're welcome!
4. Courting: Some say hot walls were also stone arches that aided in sea defense of England's southern coast, or that they were also popular for courting couples. While we don't aid in the defense of nations, we are popular for courting couples. Bring your valentine to a show.
3. Testosterawk: Hot walls were also insulated walls used in glass and metalworking. We work with rock. Not man-rock or testosterawk, but rock 'n' roll with soul, notes, good tone and a melody. Heard of it?
2. DIY: We wrote, recorded, mixed and released the album ourselves. Amazing, we also dress, drive and use the potty ourselves. (Well, most of the time.)
1. Anatomy: Some mistakenly think our name is a reference to female anatomy. Others think we're "The Hotballs," which we're not even sure is sanitary.
