What can we say about Timmy Vulgar? The disheveled man-boy has that presence. He fronts the woefully underestimated art-damaged punk combo Human Eye, had the Clone Defects (who, by the way, are sorta back; they just gigged Chi-town and a late April Detroit reunion is scheduled). His Monday DJ nights (with pal Hyman Silvergland) at The Painted Lady are, by all reports, a drunken gleeful blast of bedlam and bavardage. The self-titled Human Eye debut (on In The Red) will hit store shelves in March, advanced by the single “Chew Raw Meat.” Here’s Vulgar’s five monomanias of the week:

5. Hubble Bubble: Belgian punk band that released their first album in 1977. An amazing sound — put T. Rex’s Electric Warrior on 45 on your record player then add noises, chants and slime.

4. I hate wooden floors: They are drafty and cold and they collect dust. You can’t be naked on wooden floors. I want some shag between legs, toes and buttholes. Wood floors are overrated.

3. I’ve seen a lot of new great young bands from around town that have a raw rock ’n’ roll weirdo aspect. To name a few: Terrible Twos, the Frustrations, Heroes and Villains, Tentacle Lizardo, etc.

2. The Flamin’ Groovies from ’67 to ’71. The biggest cult band, shoulda had 10 hit songs in their time.

1. Gaye Advert says, “Buy the new Human Eye album, it turns boys into girls.”

Excuse me now, I gotta go and poop and I got no toilet paper, uh, this Metro Times will do.

Vulgar’s Rouge River Rebel Presents Punk and Weirdo Rock ’n’ Roll goes down every Monday night at The Painted Lady (2930 Jacob, Hamtramck; 313-874-2991).
