Fierce Hot Mess began as a monthly event in 2008 at the former techno Oslo. We're happy to report that the DJ night returns as a monthly event on March 7 at Menjo's, with Gin&Tronic (aka Andrew Dall'olmo and Paul Biundo) and Peter Croce serving as the event's resident DJs.
For FTM's re-launch, they're binging in special guest Chrissy from Chicago, a DJ and producer who has done work on labels like File Under Disco, Tugboat Edits, Hypercolour, Classic, and on his weekly “Year Of Edits” blog. He also co-runs The Nite Owl Diner label with Alex Burkat, and is a resident DJ at the legendary Chicago nightclub SmartBar.
Fierce Hot Mess starts at 10 p.m. at The New Menjo's Complex, 928 W. Mcnichols Rd., Detroit; 18 plus, no cover.

"Beach Mode (Keep it Simple)," Ikonika feat. Jessy Lanza
"Ikonika has been an instrumental part of the post-dubstep/future bass evolution of bass music. With numerous releases on Kode9's Hyperdub, Ikonika certainly has received the well-deserved attention. 'Beach Mode' can work both as an opener grabbing the attention of bystanders or a peak-of-the-night staple."

"Deep and moody. The rude organ, snap of the two and four, shuffling hi-hat and enigmatic vocal make this track a must. This is a great track for transitions for house and garage ... but wait for that second half."

"Clear some room for this gem. Perfect for warming up the floor for when it's not peak time but some bodies are moving. Reminiscent, thoughtful, light, and bubbly are words I'd use to describe this track. Forthcoming on Rinse so you gotta wait until March 16."
"Wiretap," Alex Coulton
"A recent addition to the Tempa family. Tempa has long been known as the premier dubstep/bass label out of London, so it's no surprise Alex Coulton was picked to be a part of the Tempa All Stars Vol. 7 compilation. Slowing things down to 125, Alex Coulton gives a different look at the possibility of UK bass. 'Wiretap' is a an easy choice for fans of house, techno, grime, and dubstep — eerie atmosphere, washes of low end, and mid-tempo kicks, PLUS a cowbell and a whistle make this track a must for the times when the condensation is running down the windows. No, seriously. It's hot."
"Sound Off," Doctor Jeep
"UK funky/ bass by hands-down one of the most under-appreciated producers in the United States. Numerous releases on Treble & Bass and more on the horizon literally every track from Doctor Jeep will tear the doors off it's hinges. If this won't make you dance then A) you're sensory-deprived or B) you have completely forgotten how to have fun. Perfect for the voguers with the recognizable 'Ha-Dance' sample from Masters At Work. Expect to see him in Detroit very soon."
"Prototype," Headhunter
"I would remiss if I didn't have at least one dubstep tune in this list. A 2008 Tempa release that still holds it weight seven years later amidst an every evolving genre of music. Now producing under the alias of Addison Groove it's clear to see that Tony Williams is only interested in making dance-floor ready music. Acid lines, indiscernible growling bass, and those rolling drums.
Too weird to live. Too rare to die."
