If you haven’t been keeping tabs on Detroit’s JR JR, you’re not alone.  Formerly known as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., the indie-pop duo fell off the map after they canceled the majority of their 2017 tour plans (including a doubleheader at El Club) due to illness.

Well, here’s some good news if the band's disappearance bummed you out. Announced Monday, JR JR will make their comeback by kicking off a free, three-part concert series at Beacon Park.

That’s right, you can see JR JR for free. A life-changing experience for the price of a couple hours out of your life and a willingness to have their earworm hit "Gone" trapped inside your brain for weeks, maybe months, and the only way it will stop is to endure a self-induced coma. JR JR will take the stage on Saturday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m.

In keeping with the radio-friendly theme, L.A.-based indie-foursome Saint Motel will perform on Saturday, July 21. A third free concert is also planned for Saturday, Aug. 18, but that act has not yet been announced.

“We’re excited to announce our summer events, including our concerts, which bring a full schedule of fun, free programming to Beacon Park,” said Nancy Moody, DTE Energy vice president of Public Affairs. “When we launched Beacon Park in 2017, our hope was that it would be a destination for those who live, work and play in Detroit. The park continues to live up to this aspiration.”
