This year at the Detroit Music Awards, legendary Detroit guitarist Dennis Coffey will be receiving a Distinguished Achievement Award. The timing is fitting with all of the energy surrounding his new album coming out next month. The popular award ceremony takes place at the Fillmore Detroit on April 16. Coffey is scheduled to play a live set that evening and will be joined on stage with Meyer Hawthorne for their new song, "All Your Goodies Are Gone," from Coffey's upcoming album due out April 26 on Strut Records. He's also nominated for an Outstanding Video Award for his instrumental cover of Cee-Lo's "Fuck You."

Considering how many ace music veterans owe Coffey a favor or two, there's no telling who he'll have come out and join him on stage but given his renewed energy and the Will Sessions backing band that typically joins him, it'll be a fun performance no matter what. It's a joy to see all of the hype and anticipation around Coffey's new release. I just caught him perform in Austin at SXSW and he's making a core effort to get around the country and the globe letting more audiences see him. According to his Twitter feed, he just got back from London and Paris a couple of days ago, and he'll playing a show at Cliff Bells on April 9th and performing for Record Store Day on April 16th in Royal Oak.
