The Shelter, on Congress in downtown Detroit, hosts a lineup of national and local touring bands that are not quite popular enough to play upstairs in St. Andrew's Hall. The venue provides an often invaluable opportunity to check out fledgling alt-rock bands before they hit the 'big time.' An added bonus is the pool table, where some bands shoot a few rounds before taking the stage.
