Not strictly a music story, we know, but this feel appropriate to City Slang anyway.
The 13th annual Dirty Show takes place at Bert’s Warehouse in Detroit between February 10-18th. Organized as ever by former Boners main man and Orbit Magazine editor Jerry Vile, the Dirty Show has evolved into something of an institution.
.According to the press release, “The Dirty show has passed from a Detroit Valentines Day tradition into a bona fide ritual. In 13 years The Dirty Show has also become the world's largest Erotic Art and Performance event of its kind. With no less than 300 national and international artists displaying hundreds of erotic works in all mediums, priced anywhere from $10 to $10,000. Starting locally but expanding globally, some of the Artist's who have shown at Dirty over the last 12 years sounds like a who's who of both Detroit-and the world art community.”
Highlights of this year’s event include an experimental film by Jacob Pander and Marne Lucas called The Operation, erotic art courtesy of the Seattle Erotic Art Festival, and the Honey Bunny Burlesque troupe. There’s plenty more too. I’ll never forget looking at a Lego vagina for about 30 minutes trying to work out what it was a few years back.
There isn’t usually any live music, but the tunes those burlesque girls dance to are always fun.
