Ty Stone, HafLife, Black Irish, the Sights and the Muggs are among the top local talent playing the Stars & Stripes Festival in Mt. Clemens this holiday weekend.
National attractions include former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley, ‘90s alt rockers Soul Asylum, classic Brit glam-stersSweet and, yup, Rick Springfield.
The festival, an annual rock ’n’ roll display of patriotism timed, of course, to coincide with the 4th of July, has become a celebration of past-it national bands on the State Fair trail alongside local talent. It’s free all weekend though, so who can complain?
Other local highlights include Bear Lake, the Infatuations, Mound Road Engine, 60 Second Crush and Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas.
For fun, check out some local cover bands. Guess who Fleetwood’s Back pay tribute to. Danny D is a spit for Rod Stewart, while Seventh Son and Banned From E.A.R.T.H. do a fair Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath respectively. Finally, Holy Divers pay tribute to the late Dio, while Stiff Competition cover Cheap Trick.
It’s that sort of festival – sit in the sun, drink a beer and eat ice-cream, and listen to a bunch of songs you know and love, while giving some local bands a chance too.
