On Saturday and Sunday this weekend (weather permitting), the fifth annual People’s Arts Festival takes place at the Russell Industrial Center, 1600 Clay St., Detroit.

Admission, as always, is free, and the event runs from 11am-midnight on Saturday, and 11am-6pm on Sunday.

The People’s Arts Festival is fast becoming one of the most anticipated festivals in the Detroit area. All of the bands and artists are local, and there’s a genuinely celebratory, family feel to the whole thing.

Artists displaying and selling their work this year include Johnny “Bee” Badanjek, Gary Grimshaw, Carl Lundgren, Mark Arminski, Leni Sinclair, the Wonder Women of Detroit, Gwen Joy, Jerry Younkins and many more.

The musical entertainment comes from folk hero Jere Stormer, alt-rockers the Phantom Airmen, psychobilly punks Switchblade Justice, Devo tribute Blockhead, indie boys Bear Lake, electro rockers the Rogue Satellites, among others.
