In the pages of the Metro Times this week, we featured a bunch of local musicians waxing lyrical about what they are thankful for this year. Sadly, we only had room for so many, and some replies came in a little late.
Fortunately, this here internet thingy allows us to pile on all manner of content, so here are a couple of extra gratitude letters from Breezee One and Nadir. Enjoy.
Breezee One
What have you personally been most thankful for this past year?
I'm most thankful for my wonderful, patient, and handsome boyfriend and my dog, Lorenzo who keeps me endlessly entertained and always finds ways to cheer me up after a rough day. I'm thankful for the immense love in my life and the overflow of opportunities that have presented themselves. And all the mistakes I've made that have given me a chance to grow and persevere.
What do you think Detroiters in general have to be grateful for?
Detroiters can be thankful for continuing to influence the world with our music, culture, and style. We might not have a picture perfect city but our people have big hearts, big dreams, and an unstoppable force.
What will you be doing for Thanksgiving?
I will be enjoying my day off work! I will drink wine early in the day and go for a long walk with Lorenzo in Patton Park with a Thermos of cocoa and peppermint Schnapps and a blunt. I'm also accepting dinner invitations.
Favorite part of the meal?
My favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is the canned cranberry sauce, still in the can shape. Nothing beats it, it's so deluxe. It's a lot like jelly, I love jelly.
Will the Lions beat the Packers on Thanksgiving this year?
In the spirit of hometown pride I'll say yes, the Lions will beat the Packers. Actually, I know nothing about football other than I like the way the players butts look. Both teams have great butts. Can I add that I'm thankful for men in Spandex?

What have you personally been most thankful for this past year?
I am eternally grateful for my wife, my beautiful Queen of Sheba, Akanke, and our 6 month-old twins Maya and Miles. This year has been the most challenging and most rewarding time of my life, and the adventure is just beginning. Fatherhood is amazing, and I am thankful for the opportunity!
What do you think Detroiters in general have to be grateful for?
Detroiters should be thankful for the strong sense of community that exists in this city and region. No matter how dysfunctional our municipal governments are, and how obtuse (shady? corrupt? incompetent? aggravating?) our elected officials and appointed bureaucrats may be, Detroit is a place where the rest of us regular folks can each find our own ways to make small and large differences in the lives of others, and we do. It's always inspiring in spite of the clouds of doom and gloom that many see looming over the city.
What will you be doing for Thanksgiving?
I will be cooking the turkey and hosting some family from out of town. No. You are not invited to dinner, but you're absolutely invited to our free show at Campus Martius Park's Holiday Marketplace on Black Friday, November 29. The FUNK will commence at 9pm in the Beer Garden at Cadillac Square.
Come on out, dance off that holiday meal, and exorcise the demons you acquired earlier in the day while you were blacking eyes and throwing elbows at your favorite Metro Detroit retail establishments.
Favorite part of the meal?
The "itis", the nap that follows, and working off the "itis" at Campus Martius Park on Friday night.
Will the Lions beat the Packers on Thanksgiving this year?
Speaking of exorcisms, I predict that this is the year the Lions will break their Thanksgiving Day losing streak, and defeat the Packers at Ford Field. Hopefully, Aaron Rodgers will still be sidelined, but even if he isn't, we've got the talent to dismantle Green Bay, and send them back to Wisconsin in a roasting pan.
I was extremely confident of this before that tragic 2nd half collapse in Pittsburgh, so at this point, I am hopefully optimistic. But I have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed. GO LIONS!
