City Slang: Mayer of Detroit wants your vote

Nov 7, 2011 at 1:18 pm

Following yesterday’s blog, where we talked about the petition to stop Nickelback from performing at halftime during the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Thanksgiving game, local indie-funk star Mayer Hawthorne has announced that he’s ready to step into the Lion’s den, so to speak.

Rolling Stone posted Hawthorne’s campaign video (follow the link to watch it).

Hawthrone is reported to have said that, "Detroit is a huge part of everything I do. Not even just in music. It's a big part of life for me. That's where I grew up, and it's the city that I love. I wrote an anthem, an ode to Detroit on my new record. The main thing that we really need in Detroit right now is hope. Thank God for the Detroit Lions.”

Hear, hear, say we. Cast your vote for Mayer Hawthorne by contacting anyone and everyone associated with the Lions and the NFL. Please, any Detroit artist but no Nickelback.

If we DO end up with Nickelback, you have to wonder who has it worse - Detroit or Dallas. It has just been announced that at the Cowboys Thanksgiving halftime show, Enrique Iglesias will perform. What is wrong with these NFL entertainment organizers?
