City Slang: Joel Peterson presents chamber music at the DIA

Detroit musician and composer Joel Peterson will present an evening of contemporary chamber music at the DIA on September 9.

There will be two sets, and each will feature some of the finest musicians in the area including saxophonist Erick Ronmark, bass clarinet player Shannon Orme, viola player James Greer and violinists Constance Marwick and Sonia Lee.

They say, “Each set of the concert includes several debut performances and all the pieces were composed between 2010 and 2012, following Peterson?s Kresge Arts Fellowship in composition. Works to be performed include a string quartet, a harpsichord trio with viola and clarinet, a duo for winds, a quintet for piano, violin, viola, glass harmonica (crystal glasses) and voice, as well as several others.
