City Slang: eBay takes down Vile’s Crisco

Aug 10, 2013 at 10:01 pm

OK, so apparently the story of former Boners man Jerry Vile’s Crisco can art at Joe Louis’ fist has got legs to go with that big, metal arm.

The update is that an auction was placed on eBay to sell the offending Crisco can that the City of Detroit had confiscated like teachers with a slingshot. However, the online auctioneers took it down because of some offensive keywords.

A statement reads, “After repeated calls to Ebay, Vile said, ‘trying to reach an actual human being in authority at Ebay is literally impossible, so we have no idea who objected to the auction which resulted in shutting it down.’
No explanation was given although there has to be a legitimate complaint for Ebay to close an auction. Ebay stated on the auction page that the closing was due to a "Keyword" issue but offered no more information. It was removed late Friday afternoon, making contact and resolution difficult with Ebay due to the week's end.
It was not known at this time if the Smuckers Corporation, who produce the product, Crisco were responsible for the complaint which led to the closing of the auction - in which the proceeds are to be given to the City of Detroit or their selected charity. The new revised Auction page was uploaded at 11:00 PM on Friday night. Crisco Is Not Mentioned in the revised Ebay auction header.”

The eBay page can be found here.

Go get yourself something special for that corner spot in the dining room.
