Dick Wagner of Frost, the Bossmen, Alice Cooper and Lou Reed among many other bands and projects, has had to postpone his Magic Bag concert, originally scheduled for September 9, in order to go in for surgery to relieve swelling on his brain. The show is now scheduled for November 11.
Wagner, who suffered a stroke and heart attack just four years ago, was due to be making his hometown comeback, but that will have to wait and with good reason. According to a statement, “It was caused by a recent fall in his swimming pool, where he hit his head very hard on a step. His neurosurgeon says it must be done right away, and he won't allow him to fly for four weeks. Of course, our main concern is for Dick to be safe and get well again quickly. His neurosurgeon thinks the results will be excellent, but it must be done.”
In addition, and comfortingly, we were told that, “Dick is in great hands. His doctor is the same doc, Dr. Zabramsky, who operated on Bret Michaels and saved his life. Zabramsky was also part of the team that helped save the life of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords when she was shot in the head earlier this year. He is one of the great docs, among the best in the world. And oh yeah, he is also a big Dick Wagner fan!”
City Slang recently interviewed Wagner for a feature that we will now hold onto until the week of the show, but he was in great spirits and full of stories about his entire, impressive career. We wish Dick a speedy and full recovery.
