Now that the Concert of Colors, along with Don Was’s Detroit Jazz Jam, is over for another year, jazz fans can look ahead to this year’s Jazz Festival, held Labor Day Weekend.
“Now in its 33rd year, the festival takes place over several city blocks in downtown Detroit - from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius – with five stages and 100 acts over four days. The Detroit Jazz Festival is widely known as one of the premier jazz festivals in North America, thanks in large part to the spirit, dedication and hard work of our volunteers. Working in all aspects of the festival, volunteers help create a safe, clean and enjoyable weekend-long celebration of jazz.”
The festival is looking for volunteers to help in backstage, transportation, Keep-It-Free/Information kiosks, program sales and more. Volunteers get a free t-shirt and an invitation to the thank-you party.

In addition, it was recently announced that Chrysler would be the official presenting sponsor of the Jazz Fest this year.
”The automotive industry and jazz music both have rich histories in the city of Detroit. The partnership between Chrysler and the Detroit Jazz Festival bridges these great histories and brings key elements of our city together," said Gretchen Valade, chair of the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation board of directors. "Welcoming Chrysler as a presenting sponsor, and hosting its vehicles for a ride and drive, further proves this year will be the best festival we've seen yet."
