City Slang: Citizen Zero return with Crofoot show

Local hard rockers Citizen Zero will play the Crofoot in Pontiac on Sunday, June 24, the band’s first show since the tragic death of guitarist (and brother to two of the members) Matt Dudley in April. Also on the bill is Tripp N’ Dixie and Red Stone Souls.

All of the good will in the world will be aimed at these guys as they pick themselves up, dust themselves off and continue doing what they love.

According to a statement, “Produced by Kid Rock’s longtime recording engineer Al Sutton at Rustbelt Studios, Citizen Zero quickly established themselves as rising stars on Detroit’s rock scene. Since forming in early 2010, Citizen Zero has rocked almost every major Michigan festival - notably Royal Oak’s Arts, Beats and Eats, Mt. Clemens’ Stars and Stripes, Port Huron’s Blue Water Festival and Detroit’s River Days, in addition to headlining “A” list venues including the Magic Bag, Crofoot Ballroom and Emerald Theatre.”

“But in April 2012, the band was sidelined by the tragic passing of guitarist (and brother) Matt Dudley. After extensive soul searching and much support from their fans, the remaining band members (including Matt’s brothers Greg on bass and John on drums, along with lead singer Josh Mayle) - decided to continue the band, with childhood friend Jason Alvarado taking over guitar duties.”
