City Slang: Black Jake and the Carnies to get Halloween-y

Ypsilanti bluegrass-punks Black Jake & the Carnies will host “Black Jake’s Halloween Showcase” at Woodruff’s on October 25.

The bill also features The Gepetto Files and The Doppelgänger Circus Sideshow.

They say, “The leaves are changing, the pumpkins are ripening, and there's a distinct chill to the air which foretells the coming of All Hallow's Eve. For Black Jake of Ypsilanti's Black Jake & The Carnies, it's a holiday that has always held a special place in the dark recesses of his heart. For years he has utilized his less-publicized talents for makeup and special effects for private Halloween parties and grand events like Detroit's Theatre Bizarre, but this year he wanted to do a little something extra.
“And so he concocted his own Halloween Showcase, to be revealed at Woodruff's Bar in Ypsilanti on October 25. The ingredients are all there for an unforgettable celebration of the ghastly. At its core lies a sure-to-be-raucous performance by Black Jake & The Carnies whose hometown shows have developed a reputation for flash, flare, and floor-shaking dance. Also joining the bill is the rock puppet show known as The Gepetto Files, the Detroit-based Doppelgänger Circus Sideshow, plus a series of hecklable 16mm film shorts screened by the estimable Chris Dean.”

Doors are at 9 p.m. and cover is $6 with costume or $8 without.
