Bob Seger tops Amazon's Goth & Industrial bestsellers list

Now, here's some local music news that you can use: Bob Seger has topped Amazon's Goth & Industrial bestsellers list with a greatest hits CD. Finally! All those leather pants he's worn, all the remixes he did for Nitzer Ebb and SPK, all the night moves — it's really paid off. 


But seriously, I worked at Amazon as a music editor for four years, starting in 1998 when they only sold books and music. I also worked as a freelance writer for them for a good four years on top of that. So I'm very familiar with the problem behind this, which is that the information behind each release has to then be adopted expertly by Amazon's system and split into what at the time was thousands of browse categories and now is likely bazillions of individual categories. Often the information you get for categorizing an item is wrong at the source, and each time that happens someone has to go in and tweak it to override it. In the case of the Goth & Industrial browse tree, they also might want to re-categorize Marshall Tucker Band and Joan Jett, who are up near the top ten in bestsellers for Goth & Industrial.


When you live in Michigan, you inherently know that Bob Seger used to actually be pretty damn good, long ago. So let's go back, before "Like A Rock" or that song a young Tom Cruise dances around in his knickers to. (Many thanks to Ned Raggett for this tip!)
