Just about every local blues band working in Detroit today either already has a CD out or is working on one, but there aren’t many compilation CDs out there of modern-day Detroit artists that give the listener an opportunity to sample more than one group at a time. The benefit of a CD such as this one is that it’s at least a small overview of who and what is out there on the scene today. Each track was recorded live at Henry Ford Community College, making it that much better for those who like to hear a band in front of a crowd.

The artists included here are among Detroit’s most popular, including Priscilla Price and the Kenny Miller Band, Alberta Adams and RJ’s Blues Crew, the Alligators, Al Hill and the Love Butlers, the Butler Twins, and Mystery Train featuring Jim McCarty. What makes this selection of talent is the combination of younger acts – comparatively speaking – with those that have been here awhile. Hearing Alberta Adams and Priscilla Price belting out the blues alongside the Alligators and Jimmy McCarty is a nice way to bridge the blues generational gap.

Lovers and followers of Detroit blues should definitely pick this one up.
