To tell you the truth, I really didn’t think I’d make it this far.
I wasn’t hip to many of the bands on the bill for night four, so I stuck to what I more anticipated to see. As I clawed the schedule, I saw that Jeecy and the Jungle were playing the Polish National Alliance Hall at 9:20. Check. I was blown off my ass when I first saw the four-piece at last year’s Blowout when they played the Gates of Columbus Lounge. They take all the visceral parts of blues, R&B, soul and punk and package it together into one crazy head trip. Lead singer and axeman Gerald Collins is a fuckin’ monster on guitar.
I caught a bit of Robin Goodfellow’s krautrock-loving, bleeping morass at the New Dodge and then headed back to the PNA to catch Beekeepers. I can only describe them as quirky, jazzy prog-pop. Whatever it is, it’s great.
The night ended in celebration as I capped off the weekend with the Dirtbombs at the PNA Hall. It was a ball; ran into a slew of old (and new) friends, danced and got a little crazy.
I think this may sum it all up: I woke up this morning and I couldn’t hear out of my left ear for hours. Yep.
