BBC honors the Beach Boys' 'God Only Knows' with every musician ever

Yesterday, BBC Music released a video of a very special rendition of the classic Beach Boys tune "God Only Knows." Aside from the 80 members of the BBC Concert Orchestra, the clip also includes appearances by 27 other world-class musicians to perform the hit from the 1966 album Pet Sounds.

The video is filled with tons of digital effects, such as the butterflies fluttering on Elton John's blazer and the tiger on Brian Wilson's piano. Never before has this song been so stylish. From the blinking lamps in the opening notes to the song's sky-high climax, this video is dripping with pomp and swagger.

Besides Wilson and Elton, some of the big names that make up the "Impossible Orchestra" are Dave Grohl, Jools Holland, Florence Welch, Chris Martin and Chrissie Hynde. However, the real show-stealer is none other than Motown legend Stevie Wonder. Not only does Stevie grace the track with his soulful voice, but also a brief harmonica solo.

Then, there's Lorde. Sweet, young, impressionable Lorde, get your chin out of your palm, sit up straight, and show some respect to one of the greatest composers the world has ever seen. When it comes to her part in the song, it sounds like she's trying to sing while holding her tongue between her fingers.

Fortunately, Lorde is really the only drag, and the video, while over the top, is an orgy of visual and auditory goodness. Plus, the single was made in order to aid the BBC's Children in Need charity. This may be the first time the words "orgy" and "charity" were used in the same paragraph.
