Ain't No Party Like A Blowout Party

Lettercamp were the stars of a strong Blowout 14 kick off party last night.

While the EEKS, FAWN and Secret Twins all put in excellent performances, Lettercamp were simply awe-inspiring. I'll be checking them out at every opportunity from now on. I had heard comparisons to Bjork, but Goldfrapp seem closer, mixed with some heavy-as-fuck industrial guitar. With a sleazy male singer, they'd sound a lot like My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult in parts. Whatever, they were great last night.

I very much liked the new stage layout last night, with the second stage taking over the pool area, rather than sticking out in the middle of the main hall from the side. Meanwhile, while there was nothing wrong with 2nd stage headliners Moon Pool & Dead Band, some Tangerine Dream-esque electronica threatened to send me to the land of nod before the Secret Twins set.

A video tribute to the much-missed Julie Hecker and a dance by her glorious Motor City Rah-Rahs was truly moving and, reassuringly, was well received by the attendees. It is that, FAWN and Lettercamp that kept me smiling when I got up at 6am for work today.
