Peas & Carrots Hospitality is prepping its first foray into west Michigan when it opens Social Kitchen & Bar in the Grand Rapids Downtown Market this month.

This newest location marks the sixth restaurant in Michigan for the growing restaurant group. Last fall, Peas & Carrots launched Au Cochon and Arthur Avenue in downtown Birmingham. The company's chef-owner, Zack Sklar, also recently jumped into the chain game when he acquired franchising rights to expand the popular Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken under Schmaltz Hospitality. Construction on the Gus's Detroit location at Third and Alexandrine started this week.

The Grand Rapids locale will also feature Sklar's catering business, Cutting Edge Cuisine.

Social Kitchen first opened its doors in Birmingham in 2012, offering "refined comfort food." The Grand Rapids outlet, under executive chef Matt Frankum, will continue with that theme, with its menu featuring crispy Brussels sprouts, chicken and waffles, house grind turkey burgers, and other American fare. The spot will seat 175, including at the bar, and outdoor patio.

"Grand Rapids has a really cool vibe with so much to offer in terms of arts and culture. We are excited to open our second location of Social Kitchen & Bar in this great city, and partner with local businesses, artisans and farmers," Sklar says in a news release.

The restaurant group did not reveal its grand opening date, but says a portion of the first day's sales will go toward local charities.

The new Social Kitchen will employ 50-75. Jobseekers can still apply by emailing [email protected].
