The long wait is over for the opening of the new Parks & Rec diner inside the GAR Building at 1942 Grand River in downtown. The breakfast and lunch spot opened its doors to the public at 7 a.m. Monday and marks the second restaurant to set up shop in that elaborate castle, which underwent an ambitious makeover at the hands of Mindfield Video Production, the Detroit-based creative studio.

The spot, which shares kitchen space with the tavern, Republic, experienced a number of delays that kept it from opening, including when chef Kate Williams exited from both locations to pursue other endeavors. Now, headed by chef Sarah Welch, the menu focuses heavily on breakfast classics like strata, Dutch babies, and Bloody Marys, according to Eater Detroit.
