Coming up on their 6-year anniversary, Joe's Hamburgers continues to serve up homemade American food with a bubbly new twist. They've added nine new taps, six craft beers, and three nitrogen taps.

It was on a trip to Traverse City that Jeremy Sladovnik, the owner of Joe's, discovered nitrogen coffee and knew he had to bring it back to Wyandotte. He chose Detroit Bold Coffee to brew and says it's a big hit. "You can do anything with nitro-coffee, just like the menu," says Sladovnik.

The nitro coffee is low acid, caffeinated and served cold. It's brewed at an 18-hour drip and then infused with nitrogen before it heads to the tap. It may have a bitter, bubbly taste to it, but try adding whipped cream, a splash of caramel syrup, blending it with Godiva chocolates, or Sladovnik recommends blending it with a peanut butter stout.

The two other nitrogens on tap frequently change, along with the other 16 craft beers. "If you are not a drinker, you can come here, order the nitro coffee, sit with your friends and their Maggie's Irish stout and they will look identical," says Sladovnik. "We started this about 30 days ago and we've sold about 10 gallons. It's something that I knew nothing about and nobody else is doing [it].

Joe's, named after Sladovnik's grandfather, gives a warm home atmosphere with family photos on the walls instead of beer signs, arcade games, $4,000 worth of pennies on the floor, and homemade meals. They also won "Best Poutine" in our Best of Detroit Awards back in May. The kitchen makes everything fresh and original, right down to the poutine gravy.

After you try the nitro beer and coffee, treat yourself with one of their nitrogen-infused Faygo milkshakes or old-fashioned banana splits. Joe's Hamburgers will also be hosting a Steam Punk Beer Garden Halloween party all day on Oct. 31, featuring many specials, including their nitrogen-infused drinks. There's no better time to try something scary.
