There's a reason why Pabst is probably your grandpa's favorite beer. The brewing company has been around for a long time — nearly 100 years. And while they're most famous, these days at least, for their Blue Ribbon beer, back in the '30s '40s and '50s their legacy brand, Ballantine, was America's number one selling beer.
Following close behind Ballantine in sales was Old Tankard Ale. The American ale utilizes the brewer's original log recipe from 1937, using two-row, Cara-Munich, and Cara-Aroma malts along with nugget, liberty, willamette, and cascade hops to make a fruity, malty, extra bitter beer.
You can pick up a four-pack of 16-ounce cans at local beer stores like Discount Drinks in Wyandotte, Beverage Express in Trenton, 8 Degrees Plato in Ferndale, or Pointe Liquor in Hazel Park. Order a can at the Rockery in Wyandotte, Woodward Avenue Brewers or Detroit Curling Club in Ferndale.
