4 cocktails that will keep you warm this winter

We've got at least another two and a half months before we see any significant or long-lasting break in the weather. So, what's the best way to get yourself through the gray garbage that is a Michigan winter? Booze, obviously.

We hit up Mike Pierce from the Emory and Woodward Avenue Brewers for some suggestions for winter warmer cocktails that will keep you pleasantly numb 'til April.

1. Signature Spanish Coffee

Half ounce Grand Marnier

Half ounce brandy

Half ounce Kahlua

Quarter ounce New Holland Brewing's Clockwork Orange liqueur

4 ounces coffee

Top with cinnamon and sugar

2. Maple Butter Rum

.75 ounces New Holland Freshwater Michigan Amber Rum

.75 ounces Flor de Caña Añejo Oro Slow Aged Rum

Half ounce Frangelico

1.5 ounces maple butterscotch simple syrup

4 ounces hot water

Whipped cream

Top with brown sugar and cinnamon

3. Chai Rye Toddy

1.75 ounces housemade chai tea-infused Rittenhouse Rye

Quarter ounce honey cloves

4 ounces hot water

Fresh lemon

4. Old Gregg

2 ounces Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey

1 ounce Baileys Irish Cream

1 ounce walnut simple syrup

4 ounces coffee Top with whipped cream

To make your own homemade walnut simple syrup, boil a cup of water with a quarter cup of Michigan-grown walnuts, then add two cups of sugar until they fully dissolve. Remove from heat and refrigerate for three days, then remove walnuts.
