Roy Ayers
The “Godfather of Neo Soul,” Roy Ayers, will grace Detroit’s New Center Park stage Saturday, July 22nd in MeanRed’s summer concert series!! The funk, soul, & jazz composer, vibraphone player, & record producer began his prolific career in the 1960s producing albums with the likes of Herbie Mann & Fela Kuti. He is a key figure in the acid jazz movement and is best known for his compositions "Everybody Loves the Sunshine", & "Running Away.” It has been said Ayer’s work has been sampled on hits by the most famous rappers more than any other artist.
