Hitmakers past and present: This year’s include the currently hot Patty Larkin (Friday, 6 p.m.), ’80s reggae stars Third World (Saturday, 7 p.m.),’70s soul-rockers War (Friday, 9 p.m.) and ’50s rock icon Bo Diddley (Sunday, 8:45 p.m.).
Top-drawer Detroit talent: For instance, Robert Bradley and Thornetta Davis, performing together in Detroit Blues Connection (Sunday, 2 p.m.).
Surprises from everywhere: A prime example is Natacha Atlas, a Belgian-born singer-belly dancer with roots in Egypt, Palestine and Morocco who first gained notoriety with the group Transglobal Underground. Atlas performs with Du Oud from Tunisia (Sunday 6:30 p.m.). Others to listen for include Zimbabwean star Oliver Mtukudzi (Friday, 7:30 p.m.), Native American blues-rockers Indigenous (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) and Brazil’s Vinicius Cantuaria (Saturday, 5 p.m.).
Show and tell: The Rhythm Stage offers performances, demonstrations and (sometimes) hands-on lessons. Saturday and Sunday's artists will play and demonstrate styles from Japanese Taiko to Trinidadian steel drumming.
