Zanele Muholi - Bathini

Zanele Muholi, photographer and visual activist, explores LGBTQ identities and politics in contemporary South Africa. Her series “Faces and Phases” features more than 200 portraits of South Africa’s lesbian community. Her photographs challenge the stigma surrounding gays and lesbians in South Africa. Her aim is to debunk the common ideal that homosexuality is un-African, and address the hate crimes against homosexuals in her native country.
