WSO Concerts for Kids

When: Sat., March 23, 10 & 11 a.m. 2019
Price: $5
The WSO values creative, innovative programs that are fun and encourage high level active listening skills at all ages. Audiences of all ages at the WSO’s Concert for Kids Series can get up close and personal with professional musicians (specifically for concertgoers between ages 0-6). This interactive small-ensemble concert series is programmed, hosted, and performed entirely by the musicians of the WSO. The WSO’s Concert for Kids Series provides families the opportunity to have fun and explore music together in an informal, comfortable environment. Before each concert, Music for Young Children leads craft tables in the Capitol Theatre lobby where children can create their own instruments from common household materials, such as paper plate tambourines, wax paper kazoos, tissue box guitars, or egg shaker maracas. These crafts are often incorporated into the concert so that children can participate as active performers as well as listeners. All the Concerts for Kids are designed to provide a safe and comfortable place for exploring new sounds and instruments, moving to different kinds of music, singing of familiar songs, and develop high-level active listening skills. High-level active listening skills are key for students to become great readers and learners – learning how to listen to music, how to tell the difference between instrument sounds, and how pitch is used to communicate in language and music.
