Wannabe savior

One of our readers e-mailed the Abandoned Structure Squad (known as A.S.S. to our pals) asking if we could obtain some info about a spacious and (unfortunately) airy two-story brick home at 11 W. Parkhurst.

“I was driving up John R from McNichols and saw this beauty just there …” writes A.S.S. wannabe Scott Remington of Dearborn, “and I have to find out more about it.”

Helpful dude that he is, Scott included a photo.

“I wish the owners would give the house away, ’cause I’d treat it a lot better,” informs Scott. “The front door is hanging open. Please get me more info. I’d love to get the property secured before it gets burned out.”

A.S.S. drove out and inspected the place. Indeed, the front door — a piece of plywood, actually — flopped in the breeze. Although one neighbor said transients weren’t a problem, bedrolls on the floor indicate someone could be using the place as a crash pad.

A trip to the Wayne County Register of Deeds revealed that the previous owner defaulted on his loan in 2001. The place is now owned by the Beal Bank of Plano, Texas, which can be reached at 800-649-2325.
