Detroit music has a rich past, which we’ve often focused on for our annual music issue. This year, we look at a handful of the artists who represent Detroit music's promising future. We sought out our notable producers, songwriters and recording artists, and asked them about their art and how they do it. And we made it a point to talk to musicians and singers who weren't just pushing their respective genres but expanding them, melding them, spanning them. It all adds up to more than the sum of its parts, as we hope this coverage proves.
