The class struggle and socialist revolution: Lessons of the 20th century

A public meeting organized by the Socialist Equality Party and the International Youth and Students for Social Equality.

There is mounting outrage here and worldwide over the terrible conditions created by capitalism and a renewed interest in socialism and the political lessons of the revolutionary struggles of the 20th century.

The Russian Revolution of 1917 was the first time the working class took power. But the rise of the Stalinist regime discredited socialism in the eyes of workers and led to great defeats, particularly the triumph of Nazism in Germany.

Leon Trotsky led the fight against Stalinism in the Soviet Union and internationally. He founded the Fourth International to build a new revolutionary leadership in the working class.

The meeting will review these historical experiences and draw the lessons for today’s struggle against capitalism, social inequality and war.

Speaker: David North, editor of the World Socialist Web Site. For more information, visit wsws.org.
