The beat goes on

Continuing the tradition of vitality and relevance in Detroit poetry, the work of Aurora Harris appears in a new anthology, Tilting the Continent: Southeast Asian American Writing, due out this month from New Rivers Press of Minneapolis. Harris draws on her dual heritage of Filipino and African-American roots on the way to a literature of perpetual (e)motion. And though renowned for the energy of her public performances, she “gives back” to the community as a poet-in-the-schools.

Edited by Shirley Geok-lin Lim and Cheng Lok Chua, Tilting the Continent features 264 pages of poetry, short stories and essays by U.S. residents from Bruneian, Burmese, Cambodian, Filipino, Hmong, Indonesian, Laotian, Malaysian, Singaporean, Thai and Vietnamese backgrounds.
