Terence Blanchard and the E-Collective Staff Pick

When: Thu., June 15, 7:30 p.m. 2017
Price: $30
Jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Terence Blanchard’s show is a can’t-miss event for jazz buffs. After premiering his works for Detroit 67 a couple of months ago, Blanchard is back to perform once more. He’s a pretty big deal. Blanchard has written the score for every Spike Lee film since Jungle Fever, composed an accessible, well-reviewed, and intense opera, and teaches at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. His 2015 album with the E-Collective, Breathless, which was inspired by the death of Eric Garner, got him a lot of attention from the press, as it not only showed Blanchard’s support for the Black Lives Matter movement but is a solid and important work in and of itself.
