Speaking of saxophonist James Carter, just over the horizon is an event that should register on the legend-ometer. Consider this an early warning to those who love their music risky and frisky: hometown sensation Carter, recently back from conquering the known and unknown worlds of jazz with his melodic, harmonic and rhythmic audacity, will record a live CD during three nights (June 14, 15 and 16) at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge (20510 Livernois, Detroit). Joining him for the adventure will be star saxophonists Johnny Griffin, Franz Jackson and David Murray, so it’s safe to assume the accent will be on some hellacious blowing. Reserved-seat tickets for each two-set evening are $20, with Thursday’s conflagration starting at 8 p.m. and the Friday and Saturday explosions each igniting at 9:30 p.m. If you’ve ever wondered what those ’50s Jazz at the Philharmonic concerts were like or those wild nights at Birdland, here’s your chance, jazz-beaus. Call 313-345-6300 ASAP.
