Baby boomers and millennials alike get a warm, fuzzy feeling when Burl Ives begins to retell the tale of a certain red-nosed reindeer. The 1964 made-for-TV movie has long been considered a classic, and like all classics it’s now been bastardized by a touring musical. At least all the integral characters — Rudolph, Clarice, Donner, Comet, Hermey the elf, and Yukon Cornelius — made it into the stage show. As for those warm, fuzzy feelings? Well, they must have been miscast.
