Communicating Vessels

The intro allows this hip-hop record from Alabama group the Green Seed to nestle in, to give the listener a false sense of security, and then “Jude Law” kicks in, with its jazz loops and witty lyrics. “I did not play Obi Wan,” they chant — a silly but fun nose-tweak in the face of the pretty-boy actor. That’s the M.O. for these guys — the music is super-serious, but they’ll have tons of fun with the lyrics. Outkast is an obvious reference, as is A Tribe Called Quest, but these guys definitely have a sound of their own.
