Reasons to walk

Rob Fetzer has plenty of reasons to take part in the annual AIDS Walk Detroit this Sunday in Royal Oak. But one of the most compelling, at least to News Hits, is that Detroit has only about 30 beds to house the estimated 1,050 people in the city infected with the deadly affliction.

Fetzer is the executive director of Wellness House, which provides housing, medical services and other assistance to 12 homeless people with HIV/AIDS and food to about 400 infected people each month. Fetzer is walking to raise money for his organization and awareness about the killer disease.

If you need a reason to walk, think of Fetzer, Wellness House or the many infected folks who need shelter.

Register at the event Sept. 16, at 8:30 a.m. on Lafayette between Fourth Street and 11 Mile Road in Royal Oak or call 248-399-WALK. The walk begins at 10.
